1.2 the code applies to such vessels in commercial use, other than when in use for recreational, sport or pleasure use, for which there are more appropriate codes. 1.3 the code is applied in accordance with the merchant shipping (small workboats and pilot boats) regulations 1998, si1998/1609, as amended (“the enabling regulations”).. Area category 3 – up to 20 miles from a safe haven. area category 2 – up to 60 miles from a safe haven. area category 1 – up to 150 miles from a safe haven. area category 0 – unrestricted service. the area reflected in the allocated stability category is the maximum distance it can operate commercially.. The vessel is constructed to the mca workboat code of practice and can operate up to category 3 regulations (up to 20 nautical miles from a safe haven). this vessel can be utilized to carry out a number of different tasks such as; safety stand-by, line handling, survey operations, pushing, light towing (2.2 tonne bollard pull) marine civil.
